The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Egypt, Liao Liqiang, announced on Wednesday, July 9th that “China is considering engaging Egypt in the new COVID-19 vaccine project that Beijing is developing”, Egypt Today has reported.

Liquiang made this announcement during an online Covid-19 donation conference. The conference was held by the Chinese Association for Family Planning to provide medical missions, supplies worth $100,000 to its Egyptian counterpart, and a number of private hospitals to provide protection for the medical staff fighting the epidemic.

While details of the cooperation between the two countries are yet to be released, China’s CanSino Biologics, a vaccine developer has planned to launch a phase III trial of its experimental COVID-19 vaccine.  Along with Egypt, Beijing is in talks with Russia, Brazil, Chile, and Saudi Arabia for possible cooperation in this vaccine trial phase.

During a recent China-Africa extraordinary virtual summit in June, President Xi Jinping “pledged to supply any vaccine against Coronavirus to African first free of charge.”
